Miami Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill admitted he could have handled himself better during a traffic stop on Sunday but criticized the police for their aggressive behavior. The incident escalated after Hill was pulled over near the Dolphins’ stadium, and officers forcibly removed him from his vehicle, handcuffed him, and pinned him to the ground over a dispute about his partially raised car window.
Hill acknowledged his mistake in not fully complying immediately but emphasized that it didn’t justify the police’s actions. “I could have let down my window in that instant, but that doesn’t give them the right to treat me like that,” Hill said. The incident, which occurred hours before the Dolphins’ season opener, has led the Miami-Dade Police Department to launch an Internal Affairs investigation.
Bodycam footage shows the tense exchange between Hill and the officers, who became increasingly hostile. One officer eventually pulled Hill from the car, forcing him to the ground with a knee pressed against his back, even as Hill pleaded about his recent knee surgery. Hill expressed his frustration, questioning the officers’ actions, especially given they were wearing bodycams.
Following the incident, one officer was placed on administrative duties, but Hill believes stronger action is needed, calling for the officer’s dismissal. Despite the ordeal, Hill played in Sunday’s game, scoring an 80-yard touchdown in the Dolphins’ 20-17 victory.
