Tottenham Hotspur has suspended midfielder Yves Bissouma for their upcoming Premier League match against Leicester City on Monday. The decision follows the emergence of footage showing Bissouma inhaling laughing gas, an action that has been criminalized in the UK since 2023.
Despite the 27-year-old’s public apology for what he described as a “severe lack of judgement,” Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou emphasized the need for Bissouma to rebuild trust within the team. Postecoglou stated, “He’s made a really poor decision, and now he has to work hard to regain the trust of the group and me.”
Bissouma, who joined Tottenham from Brighton for £30 million in 2022, had participated in a friendly match against Bayern Munich just before the incident. The midfielder’s actions have drawn criticism due to the legal and professional responsibilities that come with being a Premier League footballer.
Postecoglou expressed disappointment but also left the door open for Bissouma’s redemption, emphasizing the importance of rehabilitation and the chance to learn from mistakes.
