Tottenham Hotspur continued their strong form with a 2-1 victory against Ferencváros at the Groupama Arena, marking their fifth consecutive win across all competitions. Coming off a confident 3-0 win against Manchester United in the Premier League and a 3-0 triumph over Qarabağ in their UEFA Conference League opener, Spurs looked to maintain their momentum in this second group-stage match.
Despite Tottenham’s ambitions for another dominant win, Ferencváros started brightly. Barnabás Varga and Adama Traoré tested the Spurs defense early on, and Varga seemed to give the home side the lead after 16 minutes. However, his header from Eldar Ćivić’s cross was ruled out for a marginal offside. This disallowed goal sparked Tottenham into action, and Pape Matar Sarr broke the deadlock by slotting in from close range after the ball fell kindly to him in the box. Spurs came close to doubling their lead, with Pedro Porro hitting the post before halftime.
Ferencváros came out fighting in the second half, with Matheus Saldanha forcing a brilliant diving save from Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. However, Tottenham remained the more threatening side, with Cristian Romero and debutant Will Lankshear both coming close to extending the lead. Spurs sealed the win late on when substitute Brennan Johnson scored his fifth goal in five games, curling a shot in off the post.
Ferencváros managed a late response through Varga, who volleyed in from close range, but it wasn’t enough to prevent defeat. With this win, Tottenham strengthens their position in the group, edging closer to securing a spot in the knockout stages.
