German coach Thomas Tuchel is reportedly poised to take over as the next permanent manager of the England men’s senior team. The FA has been seeking a new boss following Gareth Southgate’s resignation after England’s Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain. Interim coach Lee Carsley had taken the reins temporarily, but speculation has been rife about who would fill the role permanently, with Tuchel emerging as the frontrunner over other high-profile candidates, including Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola.

Tuchel, 51, has an impressive track record, having led Chelsea to Champions League triumph in 2021, along with FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup victories. He also recently guided Bayern Munich to their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title before parting ways with the club last season. Now, Tuchel is set to become England’s third foreign manager, following in the footsteps of Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

Tuchel will inherit a talented England squad, featuring stars like Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, and Cole Palmer, and will be tasked with ending the country’s long trophy drought, with their last major win dating back to the 1966 World Cup. As one of the most decorated managers available, Tuchel’s appointment would bring hope that England can finally reach World Cup glory in 2026. An official update from the FA is expected soon.
