World number one Iga Swiatek eased into the fourth round of the US Open with a commanding 6-4, 6-2 victory over 27th-ranked Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. The 2022 US Open champion, who has claimed five titles this year including the French Open, showed her class in a match where she was rarely troubled.

Swiatek broke Pavlyuchenkova early in the first set and held her lead despite the Russian’s efforts to stay close, with Pavlyuchenkova managing to hold serve during a tense four-deuce game to trail 4-3. Swiatek closed out the set without facing a break point, displaying her trademark precision.

The second set saw Swiatek raise her level even further, breaking Pavlyuchenkova at love for a 2-1 lead and cruising to victory with another break as the match progressed. Swiatek’s win sets up a fourth-round clash against 16th seed Liudmila Samsonova, with a spot in the quarter-finals on the line.
