Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has called on his teammates to step up after a 4-3 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday dropped the club to 11th in the Premier League, intensifying scrutiny on manager Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs have now won just once in their last seven matches across all competitions, a slump compounded by injuries to key players Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven during Sunday’s loss. Son, who netted a stoppage-time consolation goal, emphasized the importance of unity and support during tough times:

“We’ve got to stick together in such difficult moments. The players are very young and need more support than ever before. It’s time for us to step up.”

The South Korean forward also praised the fans for their unwavering support but underlined the need for greater effort from the squad.

Manager Ange Postecoglou, in his second season with Spurs, faces growing pressure amid the team’s struggles. Despite the poor run, Postecoglou has received backing from defender Cristian Romero, who highlighted the challenges posed by injuries:

“We’ve suffered a lot of injuries. The staff are doing great work, and we love the way they coach and the football they try to play.”

Romero defended Postecoglou’s approach while acknowledging the inevitable criticism that comes with poor results.

Upcoming Challenges

Tottenham’s demanding schedule offers little respite as they prepare for:

  • Europa League Fixture: Against Rangers on Thursday.
  • Premier League Clash: Away at Southampton on Sunday.

Spurs will need a swift turnaround in form to salvage their season and ease the growing pressure on Postecoglou and the squad.

As Tottenham battles injuries and inconsistency, Son’s leadership and calls for unity could prove pivotal in reigniting their campaign.
