Sjoeke Nusken’s brace guided Chelsea to a comfortable victory over Ajax in the Women’s Champions League quarter-final, giving them control of the tie. Lauren James opened the scoring before Nusken added a second.
The second leg is scheduled for March 27th at Stamford Bridge, with Barcelona or Braan awaiting the winner in the semi-finals.
Despite some lacklustre performances in the Champions League this season, Chelsea had a satisfying evening against Ajax.
The Dutch side, backed by a record crowd, had moments of threat but were ultimately outclassed by Chelsea’s attacking display. Lauren James opened the scoring, followed by Sjoeke Nusken’s contribution, although Guro Reiten had a goal disallowed by VAR.
Nusken’s second goal sealed a comfortable victory for Chelsea in the first leg, leaving them in a strong position for the return fixture. With their quadruple ambitions in mind, manager Emma Hayes may consider resting some players in the upcoming matches.
