Football legend Samuel Eto’o, president of Cameroon’s Football Federation (FECAFOOT), has been banned by FIFA for six months for violating conduct rules during the Under-20 Women’s World Cup. Eto’o’s ban stems from his actions during Cameroon’s round-of-16 match against Brazil in Bogotá, Colombia, on September 11, 2024.
FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee cited breaches of articles 13 (Offensive behavior and violations of fair play) and 14 (Misconduct of players and officials) of its Disciplinary Code. As a result, Eto’o is barred from attending any male or female matches involving Cameroonian teams across all age groups during the ban period.
This is not the first time Eto’o has faced scrutiny for his behavior, having previously been involved in incidents such as threatening players and assaulting a fan during the Qatar 2022 World Cup. It remains uncertain if Eto’o will return to his role as FECAFOOT president after the ban expires, as his actions continue to put his leadership position at risk.
