Ronnie O’Sullivan’s World Open journey ends with an unexpected loss to Hossein Vafaei in the last 16 stage in China. Despite a remarkable break of 125 in the eighth frame, which brought the match to a 4-4 tie, O’Sullivan’s missed crucial black in the final frame led to Vafaei securing a 5-4 victory.

Vafaei now awaits the winner between Ding Jinhui and Shaun Murphy in the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Judd Trump, the 2019 World Open champion, advances to the quarter-finals after defeating David Lilley 5-3 and will face Kyren Wilson next.

World number two, Trump, eyes his fifth title of the season ahead of the upcoming World Championships in Sheffield. In the recent match, Stephen Maguire couldn’t replicate his earlier success against reigning world champion Luca Brecel, falling 5-1 to Barry Hawkins. Hawkins will now face either Neil Robertson or Chris Wakelin in the quarter-finals.
