Manchester United defender, Raphael Varane, will bid farewell to the club as his contract concludes at the end of the season. The 31-year-old, who arrived from Real Madrid in July 2021, has made a significant impact during his tenure, featuring in 93 appearances for the Red Devils.

Varane’s contributions were instrumental in United’s triumph in the Carabao Cup of 2023 under the stewardship of manager Erik ten Hag, where they secured victory over Newcastle United in the final. Expressing gratitude for his service, United issued a statement extending best wishes to Varane for his future endeavors.

Having enjoyed a distinguished career at Real Madrid, including multiple La Liga titles and Champions League triumphs, Varane brought invaluable experience to United’s backline. His achievements also extend to the international stage, having clinched the World Cup with France in 2018 before retiring from international football in February 2023.

However, Varane’s final chapter at United has been marred by injury, with his last appearance dating back to a clash against Chelsea on 4th April. With uncertainties looming over his fitness for the remaining fixtures, United faces Newcastle United and Brighton in their league campaign, followed by an FA Cup final showdown against Manchester City at Wembley on 25th May.

Reflecting on his departure, Varane expressed optimism for United’s future under new ownership, praising their clear vision and strategic approach. As he prepares to bid farewell to Old Trafford in the last home game of the season, Varane anticipates an emotional send-off, acknowledging the profound impact of his time at the club.
