Rangers have secured the services of Czech Republic winger Vaclav Cerny on a season-long loan from Wolfsburg. The 26-year-old, who has earned 17 caps for his country and played once at Euro 2024, joins the Scottish club to bolster their attacking options.
Cerny struggled for consistent starts in his debut season with Wolfsburg, making only 14 starts after transferring from Twente last summer. Despite his limited appearances, Rangers manager Philippe Clement sees great potential in him. “He is an exciting player with valuable experience in European football,” Clement said. “He has already shown his attacking qualities during his time in the Eredivisie and at Wolfsburg, and he will further strengthen our attacking options in the squad. I feel as a club and staff we can continue to help him as a player to reach new levels.”
Cerny’s career began at hometown club Pribram before he moved to Ajax in 2014. He later played for Dutch sides Utrecht and Twente. Commenting on his move to Rangers, Cerny expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “From the first talks with the manager, it gave me a very good feeling and from there on I would say it went pretty fast.”
Cerny is Rangers’ eighth signing of the summer, reflecting the club’s ambitions to enhance their squad for the upcoming season.
