England and Aston Villa forward Rachel Daly, an integral part of the national team with 84 caps, has announced her retirement from international football.

Her decision comes on the heels of her recent appearance in England’s Euro 2025 qualifying victory over the Republic of Ireland, where she entered the game as a late substitute.

Reflecting on her departure, Daly expressed both sadness and gratitude, acknowledging the privilege of representing her country while recognizing that the time has come to conclude her international career.

Having made her England debut in 2016 against Serbia, Daly quickly established herself as a valuable asset, scoring 16 goals throughout her tenure. Her crowning achievement came at Euro 2022, where she played a pivotal role in England’s triumph, starting in all matches as they secured their first major trophy.

England manager Sarina Wiegman commended Daly’s versatility, infectious energy, and unwavering commitment to the team, emphasizing her significant contribution to the squad’s success.

Daly’s versatility on the field, adeptly playing as both a full-back and striker, exemplified her adaptability and skill. Notably, she featured prominently in the 2023 World Cup final, a testament to her enduring impact on the international stage.

Reflecting on her career highlights, Daly emphasized the profound influence that winning the Euros and reaching the World Cup final had on her personal and professional growth, attributing much of her success to the collective efforts of her teammates and the support of her family.

The Football Association’s women’s technical director, Kay Cossington, lauded Daly’s remarkable contributions to the Lionesses, describing her as a phenomenal individual whose presence transcended the pitch.

Daly’s departure marks the end of an era for English women’s football, leaving behind a legacy defined by dedication, resilience, and unparalleled achievements. As she bids farewell to international competition, Daly leaves behind a lasting imprint on the sport, inspiring future generations of players to strive for excellence on and off the field.
