Pep Guardiola, one of football’s most decorated managers, has confirmed that his current role with Manchester City will be his last in club football. While the Spaniard remains committed to City, he admitted he would not have the energy to begin another club project elsewhere.
Guardiola’s Statement
“I’m not going to manage another team,” said Guardiola, who has won three Champions League titles during his storied career.
“I’m not talking about the long-term future, but what I’m not going to do is leave Manchester City, go to another country, and do the same thing as now. I wouldn’t have the energy.”
The 52-year-old hinted that he might consider a national team role, a less demanding position that could allow him to step back from the intense day-to-day demands of club football.
“Maybe a national team, but that’s different. I want to leave it and go and play golf… stopping would do me good.”
Guardiola’s Glittering Career
Guardiola has built an unparalleled legacy across three of Europe’s biggest clubs:
- Barcelona (2008-2012): 14 trophies, including two Champions League titles.
- Bayern Munich (2013-2016): Seven domestic trophies.
- Manchester City (2016-present): Over 15 trophies, including a historic treble in 2023.
Future Speculation
Guardiola’s openness about considering a national team role will undoubtedly fuel speculation about potential opportunities. Could Spain, or even a different powerhouse like Brazil or England, benefit from his tactical genius?
For now, Guardiola remains focused on Manchester City, continuing to chase silverware while cementing his legacy as one of the greatest managers in football history.
