The Serbian Olympic Committee confirmed on Tuesday that tennis star Novak Djokovic will compete in the upcoming Paris Games, marking his fifth Olympic appearance. This announcement comes after Djokovic underwent knee surgery following his withdrawal from the French Open quarterfinals due to injury.

Djokovic, 37, had surgery on his right knee, which he reported went well, and expressed his eagerness to return to competition “as soon as possible.” Despite the uncertainty surrounding his participation in Wimbledon, which begins on July 1, the Serbian committee affirmed his commitment to the Paris Olympics. The tennis events for the Paris Games are set to start on July 27 at Roland Garros, the same venue as the French Open.

The upcoming Olympics present another opportunity for Djokovic to pursue an elusive Olympic gold. His best result to date is a bronze medal, won at the Beijing Games in 2008. With 24 Grand Slam titles to his name, Djokovic’s inclusion in the Paris Games is highly anticipated, as he aims to add an Olympic title to his illustrious career.

The timeline for Djokovic’s recovery and return to form remains a topic of interest, especially with the proximity of Wimbledon. However, his determination to compete in Paris highlights his commitment to representing Serbia on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages.
