Brazilian superstar Neymar announced his return to team training with Saudi club Al Hilal on Monday, following nearly a year-long recovery from a serious left knee injury. The 32-year-old joined Al Hilal in August 2023 but only managed five appearances before tearing his meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament while on international duty in October.
Posting on Instagram, Neymar shared his excitement with images of himself training under the watchful eye of Al Hilal’s coach, Jorge Jesus. After undergoing surgery, Neymar resumed individual training in July. His return to competitive matches will depend on his fitness and the coach’s discretion, according to club sources.
Brazil coach Dorival Junior opted to leave Neymar out of the squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Peru, advising patience during his recovery. While Al Hilal has not yet registered Neymar for the ongoing Saudi Pro League season, he remains listed for the AFC Champions League, Asia’s top club competition.
Despite Neymar’s absence, Al Hilal secured the Saudi league title last season, going unbeaten with 31 wins and three draws, and set a record with 34 consecutive victories across all competitions.
