Mo Salah is back, and Darwin Nunez shines with two potent first-half goals as the Reds all but secure a Europa League quarterfinal

SPARTA PRAGUE 1–5 LEWIS STEELE AT THE EPET ARENA IN LIVERPOOL: Few goals were sweeter than the 1,000th, but there have been some rasping strikes and zapping team plays among the collection of Liverpool goals that Jurgen Klopp will look back on when his tenure on Merseyside comes to an end. With a twisting shot from 25 yards, Darwin Nunez celebrated that milestone in style as Liverpool crushed Sparta Prague and effectively ended this two-leg match. Other than Nunez, who? The once-derided striker is now Klopp and company’s main man.

Nunez scored the most goals for Liverpool in the Premier League history in the 99th minute against Nottingham Forest with a poacher’s finish. Nunez also scored goals 1,000 and 1,001 of the Klopp era with thunderous strikes from outside the penalty area.

Sparta pushed in their offensive, and Caoimhin Kelleher made a number of crucial stops. Klopp later acknowledged that the home team’s effort did not correspond with the outcome. However, when Priske—who and Klopp have already clashed at his former club, Midtjylland—urged his players on, it left huge openings at the back.

After that, the attackers for Liverpool lined up to stake their claim to the starting position versus City on Sunday. Salah’s trademark curling shot was disallowed for offside, Diaz finished with a clean finish to add his fourth, and Szoboszlai capped the carnage with a superb run and strike for five.
