The Milwaukee Bucks came agonizingly close to clinching their second win of the season, but a last-second shot from Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell dealt them a 114-113 loss on Saturday, extending Milwaukee’s difficult start with a 1-5 record.

Damian Lillard put on an impressive show, scoring a season-high 41 points, including a clutch jumper with 10 seconds remaining that gave the Bucks a slim 113-112 lead. However, the Bucks’ hopes were dashed when Mitchell, with composure under pressure, ran down the clock and nailed a final shot to reclaim the lead with under a second left on the board. Lillard had a chance at a buzzer-beater, but his shot bounced off the backboard, silencing the Fiserv Forum crowd.

Lillard’s performance marked a strong comeback after scoring just four points in the Bucks’ blowout loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday. He was efficient from long range, hitting 10 of 15 three-pointers, but his scoring wasn’t quite enough to secure the win. Reflecting on the game, Lillard said, “I’ve been in the league 13 years and had my share of rough nights. The only way to go from there is back to work and keep your mind right.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo also shone for Milwaukee, delivering 34 points and grabbing 16 rebounds in a formidable display. However, the Bucks’ efforts were matched by the Cavaliers, who had six players score in double figures, with Sam Merrill contributing 17 points off the bench and Jarrett Allen adding 15 points and 12 rebounds.

For Milwaukee, the loss underscored early-season struggles as they sit one spot off the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. Bucks coach Adrian Griffin noted the team’s inconsistency but expressed confidence in their ability to improve over the coming games.

Meanwhile, Cleveland’s victory pushed them to a perfect 7-0 start and the top spot in the Eastern Conference, with Mitchell crediting his game-winning moment to Isaac Okoro’s crucial rebound just before his final shot. “It’s not about the shot – it’s about Isaac Okoro’s rebound,” Mitchell said.

Despite a strong showing from their stars, the Bucks continue their search for consistency as they aim to break through this challenging stretch and climb up the standings.
