Manchester United is reportedly in discussions with Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim to fill the vacant managerial role following Erik ten Hag’s departure. Amorim, 39, has gained a reputation as one of Europe’s top young managers after guiding Sporting to two league titles, including their historic 2021 victory—Sporting’s first in 19 years. He has been linked with several high-profile clubs, including Liverpool and West Ham, underlining his growing appeal in European football.

Amorim’s potential move to Old Trafford would bring a fresh tactical approach to United, who are currently 14th in the Premier League after a difficult season start and a 2-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday. Ruud van Nistelrooy, a former United striker, has stepped in as interim manager, but Amorim is viewed as a strong candidate to take on the role long-term.

United’s interest in Amorim is also attributed to his proven track record with younger squads and his ability to revive underperforming teams. Despite being just 36 when he claimed his first league title with Sporting, Amorim has since developed a more refined management style, earning respect across European football.

If appointed, Amorim would face the challenge of transforming United’s fortunes in the Premier League, with his focus likely set on re-establishing the club as a competitive force domestically and in Europe.
