Manchester City have bolstered their midfield with the signing of Spanish star Nico Gonzalez from Porto on a four-and-a-half-year deal. The Premier League giants splashed €60 million (£49.8m) to secure the 23-year-old talent, a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy.

Gonzalez, who made 37 appearances for Barcelona before moving to Porto in 2023, impressed with 68 games, scoring nine goals and providing nine assists. City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, praised the move, highlighting Gonzalez’s standout performances this season.

The Spaniard becomes City’s fourth January signing, joining defenders Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, as well as forward Omar Marmoush. With Rodri sidelined due to an ACL injury and City struggling in fifth place—15 points behind leaders Liverpool—Gonzalez’s arrival could provide a much-needed boost.

City will look to bounce back from their recent 5-1 defeat to Arsenal when they take on Leyton Orient in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.
