Luka Doncic has bid an emotional farewell to Dallas Mavericks fans, expressing his gratitude a day after his stunning trade to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 25-year-old Slovenian star, who spent seven seasons in Dallas, was expected to be the franchise’s long-term cornerstone but will now join LeBron James and Anthony Davis in Los Angeles.

Doncic’s Heartfelt Message to Dallas

  • “Seven years ago, I came here as a teenager to pursue my dream,” Doncic wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
  • “I thought I’d spend my career here and wanted so badly to bring you a championship.”
  • “For a young kid from Slovenia, you made North Texas feel like home.”

Doncic, a former EuroLeague MVP, helped lead the Mavericks to the NBA Finals last season and was a finalist for Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors.

Lakers Welcome Their New Superstar

  • Lakers GM Rob Pelinka called Doncic a “one-of-a-kind, young global superstar” who will lead the team into the future as LeBron James nears the final years of his career.
  • LeBron James reacted to the trade with emotion, posting a photo of himself and Anthony Davis embracing on the court, with a caption: “Love you, my dog. Go crazy over there,” alongside a weeping emoji.
