Second-ranked Lilia Vu secured the decisive half-point to lead the United States to a Solheim Cup victory over Europe on Sunday, marking their first win since 2017. Vu birdied the 17th hole and tapped in another birdie on the 18th to tie Swiss rookie Albane Valenzuela, clinching the U.S. team’s 14.5 points at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.
“This is a dream of mine, and I’m so happy to achieve it,” Vu said after her stunning approach shot set up the winning putt. The U.S. entered the final day with a 10-6 lead, needing just four wins and a tie to reclaim the Cup.
Europe’s hopes of staging a comeback, which required winning eight singles matches, fell short. While Charley Hull and Georgia Hall claimed early wins for Europe, the U.S. responded with dominant victories from Megan Khang, Allisen Corpuz, and Rose Zhang.
Europe fought back late, but crucial ties from Andrea Lee and Lauren Coughlin set up Vu’s clinching moment, denying Europe a historic fourth consecutive Solheim Cup title. World number one Nelly Korda celebrated her first Solheim Cup win, calling it “a dream come true.”
