Leicester City have bolstered their attacking lineup by signing Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew from Crystal Palace in a deal worth an initial £5 million. Ayew, who spent six years at Palace after initially joining on loan in 2018, has signed a two-year contract with the Foxes, with the potential for the fee to rise to £8 million including add-ons.
Ayew made 212 appearances for Crystal Palace, scoring 23 goals during his tenure. He was recently featured as a second-half substitute in Palace’s 2-1 loss to Brentford. Leicester manager Steve Cooper, keen to enhance his forward options, successfully secured Ayew’s transfer, marking him as Leicester’s second signing of the week following the arrival of midfielder Oliver Skipp from Tottenham for £20 million.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the move, Ayew stated, “I’m very happy to be here and proud. The club fought hard to bring me here, and I’m excited to work under a manager who believes in me.” Ayew, despite being 32, emphasized his eagerness to continue learning and improving while contributing to Leicester’s objectives.
Leicester began their Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham, thanks to a goal from Jamie Vardy. They are set to face Fulham in their next match on Saturday.
