NBA superstar LeBron James announced an indefinite hiatus from social media, citing frustration with negativity in sports coverage. The 39-year-old Los Angeles Lakers player, who has a massive following of 212 million across Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), confirmed his break after sharing a post criticizing the “negative takes” in national sports media.
James reposted a message from Rich Kleiman, Kevin Durant’s long-time agent, who wrote, “With so much hate and negativity in the world today, it confuses me why some national sports media still think the best way to cover sports is through negative takes. I find it all a waste of breath.” James added his agreement, simply stating, “AMEN!!”
Shortly after, James followed up with, “And with that said, I’ll holla at y’all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y’all take care.”
A Pattern of Social Media Breaks
This isn’t the first time James has stepped away from social media. Known for taking periodic breaks, especially during intense basketball seasons, this decision seems to stem more from discontent with online negativity rather than game preparation.
Addressing Critics
James also recently addressed criticism he faces online following the Lakers’ win over Utah. Reflecting on rookie Dalton Knecht’s breakout 37-point performance, James recalled his collegiate observations of Knecht at Tennessee, stating, “Everybody on the internet calls me a liar all the time. They say I lie about everything. So what am I now? I’ve been said it. I watched him. I watched Tennessee a lot.”
For now, fans and followers will have to wait for LeBron’s return to social media as he focuses on the season ahead.
