Kylian Mbappe has officially signed a contract to join Real Madrid on a free transfer once his Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) deal expires on June 30. The French striker, who verbally agreed to move to the Bernabeu in February and announced his departure from PSG in May, will make the move to Spain when the La Liga transfer window opens on July 1.
Real Madrid is expected to announce the deal next week and may formally present Mbappe at the Bernabeu before Euro 2024. The 25-year-old World Cup winner is PSG’s record goalscorer, with 256 goals since joining the club from Monaco on an initial loan in 2017.
Mbappe has agreed to a deal with Real Madrid that will run until 2029. The contract includes a salary of 15 million euros (£12.8 million) per season and a signing-on bonus of 150 million euros (£128 million) to be paid over five years. Additionally, Mbappe will retain a percentage of his image rights.
This move gives Mbappe the opportunity to play alongside Luka Modric, who is set to sign a new one-year extension with Real Madrid. The 38-year-old Croatian midfielder came on as a substitute in Madrid’s 15th European Cup victory, a 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on Saturday. Modric’s current deal expires later this month, but he is expected to stay for another year.
Meanwhile, German midfielder Toni Kroos, 34, made way for Modric with four minutes remaining in what was his final appearance for Real Madrid after a decade with the club. Real Madrid will celebrate their record-extending European success with a trophy parade through the Spanish capital on Sunday night.
