England defender John Stones has resumed training after recovering from an illness that had confined him to his hotel room on Wednesday to prevent the sickness from spreading to his teammates. England is set to begin their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, on Sunday.
Stones has played a full 90 minutes only once in the past two months, although he managed 45 minutes during England’s final warm-up match against Iceland last Friday. Despite limited playtime recently, Stones remains a crucial player for England, having been key in the past three major tournaments.
With Harry Maguire, Stones’ usual central defensive partner, sidelined due to a calf injury, Stones’ return to fitness is a significant boost for England. Following their match against Serbia, England will face Denmark on 20 June and Slovenia on 25 June in their other Group C fixtures.
