In a stunning development, Jake Paul and Canelo Alvarez are reportedly finalizing a deal for a May 3 cruiserweight showdown in Las Vegas, according to ESPN. The bout, set at the 200-pound limit, will be streamed live on Netflix, marking another major move by the platform into live sports.

Paul, with an 11-1 record, has yet to face an opponent of Alvarez’s caliber. The 28-year-old internet sensation turned boxer made headlines with his victory over 58-year-old Mike Tyson, drawing record-breaking $18.1 million in gate revenue and a staggering 65 million concurrent streams—Netflix’s highest for a live sporting event.

Alvarez (62-2-2), one of boxing’s greatest champions, currently holds the unified super middleweight title and boasts world titles across four weight divisions. The 38-year-old Mexican icon recently secured a unanimous decision win over Edgar Berlanga.

While Alvarez had been in talks to face Terence Crawford later this year, it remains unclear how this bout with Paul will impact those plans. One thing is certain: this fight promises to be one of the most talked-about events of 2025.
