Tom Hoge fired a 9-under-par 64 to take the first-round lead at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii. Hoge, who birdied four of the first five holes and finished strong with four more birdies on the back nine, leads Will Zalatoris and Hideki Matsuyama by one shot.

Zalatoris, in his return from 2023 back surgery, delivered a bogey-free 65, while Matsuyama made a late surge with an eagle on the 15th. Cameron Young, Collin Morikawa, and Corey Conners sit two shots back after rounds of 66.

The event, the first of eight PGA Tour “signature events,” showcases top talent, though world number one Scottie Scheffler is absent due to a hand injury. Players now prepare for the second round as challenging winds are expected to persist.
