World No. 7 Taylor Fritz advanced to his first-ever semi-final at the Shanghai Masters with a solid 6-3, 6-4 victory over Belgium’s David Goffin. Fritz took early control, breaking Goffin’s serve in both the second and sixth games of the first set. While Goffin, who had previously upset second seed Alexander Zverev, showed more resistance in the second set, Fritz maintained his composure to seal the win.
Fritz acknowledged the challenge posed by Goffin, known for his excellent returning ability, saying, “I’m really happy with how I played… He’s such an incredible returner, I had to stay extremely focused, even more focused than normal on my service games.”
Fritz will face the winner of the quarter-final between Novak Djokovic and Czech teenager Jakub Mensik in the semi-finals. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and Czech Tomas Machac, who stunned Carlos Alcaraz, have already secured their spots in the final four.
