Former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones has died at the age of 40. Jones, who spent eight seasons in the NFL, played a pivotal role in the Ravens’ Super Bowl XLVII victory in 2013.

Jones was instrumental in Baltimore’s win over the San Francisco 49ers, setting several records in the process. His 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown remains the longest in Super Bowl history, as well as the longest play in the event. Additionally, he became the first player to both catch a touchdown pass and score on a return in the same Super Bowl.

An NFL Players Association statement, released on behalf of his family, announced that Jones “passed away peacefully at his home in New Orleans, Louisiana.”

Drafted in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft, Jones began his career with the Houston Texans before joining the Ravens in 2011. During his three seasons in Baltimore, he was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2012. Jones later played for the San Diego Chargers and the Pittsburgh Steelers, retiring in 2017.

Tributes poured in from former teammates and friends, highlighting Jones’ infectious personality and impact on and off the field. “Jacoby was one of the most fun-loving teammates and people I’ve ever been around,” former Texans teammate JJ Watt wrote on X. “Always dancing and laughing, with a permanent smile on his face. Gone far, far too soon. R.I.P Jacoby Jones.”

Torrey Smith, who played alongside Jones in Baltimore, shared his grief on X: “My brother! I thank God for the memories and your impact on this world. You were 1 of 1! Your play on the field and jokes will live on forever! We have Momma Jones a Lil Coby’s back for life! This one hurt me man! We are going to miss you! Love you bro!”

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson also paid tribute, writing on X: “Na bra no way. RIP LEGEND.”

Jones’ legacy as a key player in one of the Ravens’ most memorable seasons and his joyful spirit will be remembered by fans and fellow players alike.
