Floyd Mayweather easily handled John Gotti III in an exhibition rematch in Mexico City, despite some drama in the ring. The fight was a continuation of their controversial first encounter in June 2023, which ended in a brawl when the bout was stopped in the sixth round.
During Saturday night’s fight, the chaos resurfaced when Panamanian referee Hector Afu walked out of the ring in the second round, reportedly frustrated with Mayweather’s protests over an illegal left hook call. Mexican referee Alfredo Uruzquieta stepped in to replace him, allowing the bout to continue.
Mayweather, 47, remained in control throughout the match, with Gotti struggling to land effective punches, which drew boos from the 22,000 spectators in Mexico City. Gotti’s efforts improved slightly in the fourth round, but Mayweather maintained his dominance, never appearing in any real danger.
As is customary in exhibition bouts, no formal winner was declared, and the result does not affect either fighter’s career record. Mayweather, who retired in 2017 with an unbeaten 50-0 record, continues to participate in exhibition matches, including high-profile events like his fight against Logan Paul.
