The English Football Association (FA) has opened an investigation into Premier League referee David Coote, who was recently suspended by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) for allegedly making abusive comments about Liverpool FC and their former manager, Jurgen Klopp. The suspension comes after a video surfaced, reportedly showing Coote using derogatory language regarding the club and Klopp, though the video has yet to be independently verified.

In an official statement, the FA confirmed its awareness of the situation and the commencement of an investigation. Coote, who has been a match official since 2018, was suspended “with immediate effect” by the PGMOL pending further inquiry.

Coote has officiated six Liverpool matches, including their recent 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday, his last game before the suspension. The outcome of this investigation could impact Coote’s future as a Premier League referee.
