Former Uruguay soccer star Diego Forlan, renowned for his stints at Manchester United and Atletico Madrid, will compete in the doubles draw of the professional Uruguay Open tennis tournament in November. The 45-year-old, who switched to tennis after retiring from football in 2018, will partner with Argentina’s world number 101, Federico Coria, in the Challenger Tour event held from November 11th-17th on clay courts in Montevideo. The duo received a wild card entry.
Forlan, a left-handed player, has been actively participating in international senior tennis tournaments, including more than three +40 events in Montevideo and the MT1000 in Lima on the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour. Known for his decorated football career, Forlan earned 112 caps for Uruguay, scored 36 goals, and was a 2010 World Cup semi-finalist.
