In a highly emotional and unique sibling showdown at the Wuhan Open, Erika Andreeva triumphed over her younger sister, Mirra Andreeva, with a clinical 6-3, 6-1 victory. Despite the smiles and camaraderie during the pre-match photos, the dynamic shifted once the competition began. The match, lasting 90 minutes, ended with a quiet embrace at the net rather than any grand celebration, reflecting the difficulty both sisters felt in facing each other.

“It was tough for both of us,” Erika said after the match. She acknowledged that while it was a special moment to play against her sister at such a big tournament, neither of them fully enjoyed the experience.

Mirra, 17, had previously described the idea of facing Erika as a “nightmare,” not only because of the emotional challenge but also because of how well they know each other’s games. Although they hadn’t played a practice set against each other in over five years, Erika, 20, seemed to read Mirra’s patterns perfectly. After falling behind 1-3 in the first set, Erika’s anticipation and decision-making helped her turn the match around.

From that point, Erika dominated, winning nine straight games and 11 of the last 12, as Mirra struggled with unforced errors and the mental strain of competing against her sister. The win marked Erika’s second career Top 20 victory, following an upset against Danielle Collins earlier this year in Monterrey.

Erika, currently ranked World No. 70, now advances to the last 16, where she will face Italian No. 3 seed Jasmine Paolini, who defeated Yuan Yue 6-4, 6-3 in her previous match.
