Borussia Dortmund’s manager, Edin Terzic, effusively praised his team’s remarkable journey to the UEFA Champions League final following their triumph over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday. Their victory not only dashed PSG’s hopes but also denied Kylian Mbappe the chance to bid adieu to the French giants at Wembley.

With a slender 1-0 lead from the first leg in Germany, Dortmund defied expectations by clinching a win against PSG at Parc des Princes, courtesy of Mats Hummels’ header early in the second half. Despite being currently placed fifth in the Bundesliga, Dortmund’s underdog status in the upcoming June 1 final remains unchanged, whether they face familiar foes Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.

This final marks Dortmund’s first appearance since 2013 when they faced Bayern Munich in a memorable clash at Wembley, ending in defeat under Jurgen Klopp’s tenure. Hummels, who played a pivotal role in that final, emerged as the hero once again, extending Dortmund’s lead initiated by Niclas Fullkrug’s goal in the first leg.

Dortmund’s path to the final was strewn with challenges, notably being drawn in a group featuring PSG, AC Milan, and Newcastle United. Despite initial doubts, Dortmund not only progressed but topped their group. Terzic highlighted the team’s growing confidence, attributing their success to resilience and strategic prowess, particularly in defeating formidable opponents like Milan and PSG in the knockout stages.

Hummels, alongside defensive partner Nico Schlotterbeck, showcased exceptional prowess, thwarting PSG’s formidable attacking lineup, including the prolific Mbappe. With a goal of his own in the second leg and stellar performances across both matches, Hummels epitomized Dortmund’s determination. The veteran defender, driven by the desire to add the Champions League trophy to his illustrious career, emphasized Dortmund’s belief in their ability to triumph in the final, having demonstrated their mettle throughout the tournament.
