The Los Angeles Dodgers seized a 2-0 lead in the World Series with a 4-2 victory over the New York Yankees, bolstered by key home runs and Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s stellar pitching. Tommy Edman, Teoscar Hernandez, and Freddie Freeman each homered, driving the Dodgers’ offense at Dodger Stadium, and Yamamoto allowed just one hit across 6.1 innings. However, the win was overshadowed by a worrying injury to Shohei Ohtani, who suffered a partial shoulder dislocation while attempting a steal in the seventh inning. Ohtani’s condition will be further assessed, but manager Dave Roberts remains hopeful he will return for Game 3 on Monday.

The Dodgers took control early, with Edman’s 355-foot homer in the second inning making it 1-0. Though Yankees star New York YankeesJuan Soto evened the score in the third with a solo homer, the Dodgers regained the lead in the bottom of the inning when Hernandez blasted a two-run shot, followed by Freeman’s second homer of the series to put the Dodgers up 4-1. This barrage proved too much for Yankees starter Carlos Rodon, who exited in the fourth inning.

Despite a tense ninth inning, where Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton’s single allowed Soto to score and the bases were loaded, Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia shut down the rally to seal the win. With the Dodgers holding a 2-0 series lead, history favors their position, as teams taking the first two games in best-of-seven MLB postseason series have won 77 out of 92 times.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone remained resolute despite the setback, noting, “We won’t flinch. We’ve just got to keep at it.” As the series shifts to New York, the Dodgers hope to maintain momentum, though Ohtani’s condition will be closely monitored in the coming days.
