Mike De Decker achieved the biggest milestone of his darts career, defeating defending champion Luke Humphries 6-4 to win the World Grand Prix title in Leicester on Sunday. This victory marks the Belgian’s first TV title and a significant step forward after securing his maiden PDC Tour title at the Players Championship 16 in August.

De Decker showed resilience, particularly as Humphries mounted a comeback from 4-1 down to level at 4-4. However, De Decker held his nerve and secured the final two sets to claim the title, demonstrating mental strength and composure under pressure.

“It’s unbelievable,” said De Decker. “To beat Luke, the defending champion and world champion, makes this moment even more special. I’m very, very happy.”

Humphries, who missed out on his sixth major title, praised De Decker’s performance, acknowledging that his opponent was “on fire” throughout the match.

After a shaky start, De Decker found his rhythm, winning crucial legs and hitting timely checkouts, including a stunning 154 finish. Despite Humphries’ late resurgence, De Decker regained control in the final set, securing the biggest win of his career.

This triumph solidifies De Decker’s position as a rising star in darts, and he’ll now aim to build on this success in future tournaments.
