Conor Benn expressed relief and eagerness to return to the British boxing scene after the National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP) cleared him of allegations related to two failed drug tests from 2022. Benn’s tests had detected clomifene, a drug that raises testosterone in men, which led to the cancellation of his high-profile match with Chris Eubank Jr. in October 2022. Following the positive tests, Benn’s license was revoked by the British Boxing Board of Control, and although his suspension was initially lifted in July 2023, it was later reinstated after appeals from the Board and UK Anti-Doping (UKAD).
In a new twist, the NADP has now overturned this reinstatement, stating they were “not comfortably satisfied” that UKAD had proven Benn’s alleged doping violation. Benn responded on social media, calling the past two years the “toughest fight” of his life and reiterated his commitment to clean sports, hoping his persistent claims of innocence will now be understood.
Meanwhile, UKAD has indicated it will “carefully review” the NADP’s ruling and is considering a further appeal. Benn’s proposed 2022 bout with Eubank Jr. was meant to reignite the storied rivalry of their fathers, Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr., who clashed in two legendary fights in the 1990s.
