Claudio Ranieri has announced his departure from Cagliari, the Serie A club, by mutual agreement. The 72-year-old coach, who has had a storied career in football, is reportedly set to retire from the sport. Ranieri’s decision comes after Cagliari secured another season in the Italian top flight with a win at Sassuolo on Sunday.

Ranieri, who has managed several top clubs including Juventus, Roma, and Internazionale in Serie A, is best known for leading Leicester to a fairytale Premier League title in 2016. He has also coached Chelsea, Fulham, and Watford in the Premier League, as well as Valencia and Atlético Madrid in La Liga.

In a video on Cagliari’s social media, Ranieri said, “I have decided to leave now and it is the right thing to do. I do it reluctantly because it was a hard and painful decision, but I think it is right.” Ranieri will coach Cagliari for the last time on Thursday when they host Fiorentina in their final game of the season.

Cagliari praised Ranieri’s contributions to the club, saying, “Mister Ranieri bids farewell to Cagliari. In his two spells with the club, he always managed to lead the team to achieve their original objective… What he did will remain indelible in the hearts of every supporter.” Ranieri’s departure marks the end of an era, and his legacy in football will be remembered for years to come.
