Chelsea has successfully secured the signing of forward Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £54 million. The 24-year-old Portuguese player has committed to a seven-year contract with the Blues, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2031. Neto was introduced to fans during halftime at Chelsea’s friendly match against Inter Milan on Sunday.
Neto expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea, stating, “I feel really grateful to have joined this club. I have worked really hard in my career to be here and I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with this shirt.” This transfer follows Chelsea’s agreement with Wolves on Friday after two prior bids were rejected. The deal consists of an initial payment of £51.3 million, with an additional £2.6 million in potential add-ons.
Neto, who transferred to Wolves from Lazio in 2019, made a significant impact in the West Midlands, scoring 14 goals in 135 appearances. This transfer marks a record sale for Wolves, surpassing the £47 million received from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal for Ruben Neves in 2023. Neto’s addition brings Chelsea’s summer spending to approximately £185 million.
Chelsea’s summer transfer activity has been extensive, with twelve new players joining the squad. Recent additions include midfielders Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, and Omari Kellyman, goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, defenders Tosin Adarabioyo, Aaron Anselmino, and Caleb Wiley, winger Estevao Willian, and striker Marc Guiu. The club is also aiming to acquire Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion and Genk goalkeeper Mike Penders in the coming days.
