Valencia have appointed Carlos Corberan as their new head coach on a two-and-a-half-year contract, the La Liga club confirmed on Tuesday. The 41-year-old Spaniard leaves West Bromwich Albion to take charge of a team mired in relegation trouble, with only 12 points from 17 matches this season.

Corberan, a former member of Marcelo Bielsa’s backroom staff at Leeds United, brings a wealth of coaching experience, including stints at Huddersfield Town, Olympiacos, and West Brom. Notably, he also has roots at Valencia, having played for the club’s youth team earlier in his career.

Carlos Corberan’s Career Highlights Clubs
Youth Team Experience Valencia CF Youth
Leeds United (U-23 Coach, Bielsa Staff) 2017–2020
Huddersfield Town (Head Coach) 2020–2022
Olympiacos & West Bromwich Albion (Manager) 2022–2023

Corberan replaces Ruben Baraja, who was dismissed after Valencia’s dismal start, leaving them second from the bottom of the standings and four points adrift of safety. “Carlos Corberan becomes the new Valencia CF coach until 2027,” the club announced, confirming they had triggered the exit clause in Corberan’s contract with West Brom.

A Tough Task Ahead

Corberan’s first test will be a rescheduled clash against second-placed Real Madrid on January 3 at Mestalla, a daunting task as he looks to rejuvenate the struggling squad. The original fixture was postponed due to flooding.

Valencia fans hope Corberan’s expertise and connection to the club will provide the spark needed to avoid relegation and restore the team’s competitive edge in La Liga.
