British number one Cameron Norrie secured a place in the third round at Indian Wells with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Lorenzo Sonego. The 28-year-old Norrie had a comfortable opening set, breaking Sonego’s serve once and maintaining his own service games.
In the second set, Norrie broke twice to take a 5-2 lead, but Sonego fought back, winning two games before Norrie closed out the match with a serve. Meanwhile, world number one Novak Djokovic advanced by defeating Aleksandar Vukic.
The 28th seed, Cameron Norrie, is set to face Gael Monfils in the next round at Indian Wells after Monfils defeated the eighth seed, Hubert Hurkacz, 6-0, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2.
Norrie, who won the tournament at Indian Wells in 2021, is participating in his first event since the ATP Rio Open in February, where he faced challenges due to hot and humid conditions and illness.
Despite the setbacks, Norrie expressed his happiness to be back on the court, emphasizing the importance of recovering and building up for upcoming matches, including the Miami Open. Reflecting on positive memories at Indian Wells, he appreciates the courts and facilities, making it an enjoyable annual experience.
