Celtic started their Scottish Premiership title defense with a commanding 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock, highlighted by a standout performance from Reo Hatate. Manager Brendan Rodgers lauded the Japanese midfielder, describing him as a “different animal” after his impressive display.

Hatate, who faced challenges due to injuries last season, scored the opening goal with a powerful strike, showcasing his renewed form. Under former manager Ange Postecoglou, Hatate was a key player, but he struggled to maintain that level after Rodgers’ arrival. However, Rodgers now sees the 26-year-old returning to his best, noting, “His mentality, his focus, the quality of his game. When he’s playing against bigger opponents, he’s shown he can play to a high level.”

Following Hatate’s opener, Celtic continued to exert their dominance. Liam Scales doubled the lead just before halftime with a header from Matt O’Riley’s cross. Nicolas Kuhn, adapting better to life in Glasgow, added the third goal with a deflected shot after a pass from Kyogo. Anthony Ralston capped the scoring with a late goal, securing his first strike in over two years.

Kilmarnock’s best opportunity came from Matty Kennedy, but his shot was easily saved by Kasper Schmeichel on his debut. Despite several chances to extend their lead further, Celtic comfortably finished the match on top of the table, signaling a strong start to their campaign. Rodgers’ side unfurled the title flag amid a festive atmosphere, and with players like Hatate returning to form, they look poised for another successful season.
