England cricket captain Ben Stokes has revealed that his home in Castle Eden, County Durham, was burglarized by a masked gang while he was in Pakistan for the recent Test series. Stokes, 33, said his wife and two young children were at home during the incident on October 17, though thankfully they were unharmed. However, the burglary deeply affected the family’s emotional well-being, with Stokes noting, “All we can think about is how much worse this situation could have been.”
Among the stolen items were several pieces of jewelry and sentimental possessions, including Stokes’ OBE medal, awarded for his role in England’s 2019 World Cup victory and his unforgettable Headingley innings in the Ashes that same year. Stokes posted photos of some stolen items, including necklaces, a ring, and a designer bag, in hopes they might help identify the burglars.
While the loss of sentimental items is significant, Stokes stressed his main goal is to identify those responsible, urging anyone with information to contact Durham Constabulary. This incident follows similar burglaries targeting athletes, such as Raheem Sterling, who faced a similar ordeal during the 2022 World Cup.
