Bayern Munich has signed winger Michael Olise from Crystal Palace for approximately €60 million (£50 million). The 22-year-old English-born France Under-21 forward has made 90 appearances over three seasons with Palace, scoring 10 goals in 19 Premier League appearances last season as Palace finished 10th.
Olise, who joined Crystal Palace from Reading for £8 million in July 2021, has signed a five-year deal with Bayern. Despite interest from Chelsea and Newcastle United, Olise chose to move to Germany to work under Bayern’s new manager, Vincent Kompany. “I’m very happy to now be playing for such a big club – it’s a great challenge and that’s exactly what I was looking for,” said Olise. “I want to prove myself at this level and play my part in ensuring we win as many titles as possible in the coming years.”
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish expressed pride in Olise’s development at the club and respect for his desire to test himself at the highest level of world football. Olise has also been selected for the France squad for the Olympics in Paris later this month.
In addition to Olise, Bayern is set to complete the signing of Fulham’s Joao Palhinha for £42 million plus £4 million in add-ons. The 28-year-old Portugal midfielder was close to joining Bayern last summer, but the deal collapsed on deadline day. Furthermore, England defender Eric Dier has joined Bayern permanently after a loan spell from Tottenham Hotspur since January.
Bayern’s 11-year hold on the German title was ended by Bayer Leverkusen last season, and these new signings aim to strengthen the squad as they seek to reclaim the Bundesliga crown.
