Barcelona, who have won the Women’s Champions League twice, have made it to the semi-finals for the sixth consecutive season.
In their recent match against Brann, Barcelona, the current titleholders, secured their place in the semi-finals by defeating Brann. The first leg ended with Barcelona winning 2-1, and they extended their lead in the aggregate score when Aitana Bonmati scored in the 23rd minute. Fridolina Rolfo added another goal for Barcelona as they capitalized on a goalmouth scramble.
Despite a goal from Tomine Svendheim for Brann, Barcelona sealed their victory with an 88th-minute goal from Patri Guijarro. With star players Lucy Bronze and Keira Walsh in the lineup, Barcelona dominated the second leg at Estadi Johan Cruyff, outshooting their Norwegian opponents 26 to 7.
By defeating Brann, Barcelona sets up a rematch of last year’s semi-final against Chelsea, whom they beat 2-1 on aggregate before winning the tournament.
The first leg of the semi-final will be hosted by Barcelona on April 20-21, followed by the second leg at Stamford Bridge on April 27-28. Notably, Barcelona had previously defeated Chelsea 4-0 in the 2020-21 final, marking their first Women’s Champions League title.
