Atletico Madrid announced on Monday that they have imposed a permanent stadium ban on a fan identified by police for throwing an object onto the pitch during Sunday’s LaLiga derby against Real Madrid. The incident led to a 20-minute suspension of the match, with objects being thrown at Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois after his team took the lead in the second half.

Atletico managed to secure a 1-1 draw thanks to a stoppage-time goal by Ángel Correa. The club is continuing to work with police to identify other individuals involved, stating that they too will face lifetime bans. Additionally, Atletico will prohibit the use of any items that could conceal fans’ identities inside the stadium.

Currently fourth in LaLiga, Atletico Madrid is set to visit Benfica for a Champions League fixture on Wednesday.
