Carlos Alcaraz faces a tense wait after his second-round match against Gael Monfils was suspended due to rain on Thursday night. Alcaraz won the first set 6-4 but was trailing 1/3 in the second-set tiebreaker when the match was halted. The players will resume play on Friday not before 12:30 p.m., with the winner needing to play again later in the day against 15th seed Holger Rune.
Alcaraz, competing in his first hard-court tournament since March and fresh off a silver medal win at the Paris Olympics, saved a set point at 5-6 in the second set to force the tiebreak. The World No. 3 leads Monfils 2-0 in their previous encounters.
In other matches, seventh seed Casper Ruud and Felix Auger-Aliassime will also have to play their second-round match on Friday. The winner of that match will face Jack Draper later in the day.
