Marseille striker Neal Maupay, currently on loan from Everton, has reignited tensions with his parent club following their latest Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest. The Frenchman took to social media with a series of provocative posts aimed at the struggling Toffees, who are just three points above the relegation zone in 16th place.
“Whenever I’m having a bad day, I just check the Everton score and smile,” Maupay wrote after the 1-0 loss, a comment that sparked widespread reaction.
Maupay’s jab drew a heated response from Everton supporters, including former professional boxer and devoted fan Tony Bellew, who criticized the striker for his comments. Doubling down, Maupay later added: “See you in the Championship next season!”
The 27-year-old, who joined Everton in 2022, endured a difficult spell at Goodison Park, scoring just one goal in 29 league appearances before being loaned out to Marseille last summer.
Everton’s Struggles
The Toffees continue to battle near the bottom of the Premier League table, with the latest defeat adding to the pressure on manager Sean Dyche.
With Everton facing another uphill battle to avoid relegation, Maupay’s comments have only added fuel to the fire, amplifying the frustrations of fans already grappling with the team’s poor form.
Whether Maupay’s digs will have any repercussions from Everton or further reactions from fans remains to be seen, but the drama highlights the growing disconnect between the player and the club.
