Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has confirmed he will undergo surgery following a serious cruciate ligament injury sustained during his team’s 2-0 LaLiga victory over Villarreal. Carvajal was stretchered off in stoppage time after a challenge with Villarreal’s Yeremy Pino resulted in an awkward sprain to his right knee.

“Serious cruciate ligament injury confirmed, I’ll have to undergo surgery and be off the field for a few months,” Carvajal announced on Instagram, sharing a picture of himself in an ambulance. Despite the setback, the defender remains optimistic about his recovery, vowing to “come back like an animal.”

The injury adds to Real Madrid’s growing list of concerns, with coach Carlo Ancelotti already dealing with the absence of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who is sidelined with an abductor injury from last week’s match against Atletico Madrid.
