Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the China Open due to a foot injury sustained during her quarter-final match at the Korea Open against Daria Kasatkina. The 21-year-old Briton, who has faced ongoing injury issues since winning the 2021 US Open, announced that she sprained ligaments in her foot and needs time to recover, forcing her to miss the WTA 1000 event in Beijing. Despite climbing to 54th in the world rankings, Raducanu has had a challenging season with injuries, having also undergone ankle and wrist surgeries last year.

Several other high-profile players, including former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, world number one Iga Świątek, and Ons Jabeur, have opted out of the China Open, which runs from September 25 to October 6.

In the men’s ATP 500 tournament, Alexander Zverev also withdrew due to pneumonia after helping Team Europe win the Laver Cup. Zverev will miss both the China Open and the upcoming Davis Cup Final 8 in November, where he was initially expected to represent Germany.

The tournament will still feature top players like world number one Jannik Sinner, with the draw set to take place on Tuesday.
